Vaibhav Sooryavanshi delivered a defining innings on the biggest stage of his young career, producing one of the most commanding knocks in Under-19 World Cup history.

In the final of the ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup at Harare, the 14-year-old left-hander tore into England’s attack with a breathtaking 175 off just 80 balls, wresting complete control of the contest and putting India firmly in command.

It was the highest individual score by an Indian batter in a limited-overs ICC final across senior men’s, Under-19 men’s, senior women’s and Under-19 women’s cricket.

The innings marked a dramatic crescendo to a tournament built more on consistency than spectacle. Scores of 2, 72, 40, 52, 30 and 68 had underlined Sooryavanshi’s reliability at the top of the order, but a truly decisive, match-defining performance had eluded him — until the final.

India were jolted early by the loss of opener Aaron George in the fourth over, yet Sooryavanshi remained unruffled. He settled quickly, allowing the innings to unfold on his terms. Once set, the tempo rose without recklessness. Crisp drives pierced the infield, pulls were dispatched with authority, and lofted strokes sailed effortlessly over the ropes. Every boundary appeared calculated rather than impulsive.

Sooryavanshi reached his hundred in just 55 balls, placing it among the fastest centuries in Under-19 World Cup history. Instead of easing off, he accelerated further, surging from 100 to 150 in only 16 deliveries. He brought up 151 off 71 balls as England’s bowlers struggled to stem the relentless momentum — power allied to remarkable balance and clarity.

By the time he was dismissed for a majestic 175, Harare Sports Club had witnessed an exhibition of batting that had long since swung the final India’s way. His innings was studded with 15 fours and 15 sixes, a blend of brute force and composure that left England searching for answers.

The knock rewrote the record books. Sooryavanshi’s 175 is now the highest individual score in an Under-19 World Cup final, surpassing Unmukt Chand’s 111 against Australia in 2012 and Brett Williams’ 108 for Australia against Pakistan in 1998 — a stark reflection of the evolving tempo and fearlessness of modern youth cricket.

  • Highest scores in U-19 World Cup finals
  • Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (India) – 175 vs England, 2026
  • Unmukt Chand (India) – 111 vs Australia, 2012
  • Brett Williams (Australia) – 108 vs Pakistan, 1998

The innings also placed Sooryavanshi among the top 10 highest individual scores in Youth ODI history. He is only the second Indian on that list, after Ambati Rayudu’s unbeaten 177 against England in 2002.

On the speed charts, too, his impact was unmistakable. His 55-ball hundred is the second-fastest in Under-19 World Cup history, behind Will Malajczuk’s 51-ball century earlier in the same tournament. Across Youth ODIs where data is available, Sooryavanshi features repeatedly among the quickest centurions, having also reached the milestone in 52 balls against England in 2025 and 56 balls against UAE Under-19s.

The final was equally historic for six-hitting. Sooryavanshi’s 15 sixes were the most by any batter in a single Under-19 World Cup innings, eclipsing Michael Hill’s long-standing record of 12 set in 2008. In the process, he also bettered his own Youth ODI record of 14 sixes, achieved against UAE Under-19s in Dubai last December.
