Ahmedabad Air India Crash: 265 Dead as Plane Hits Medical College Hostel, Massive Rescue Effort On.

At least 265 people, including 241 passengers and 10 hostel residents, were killed after an Air India Dreamliner crashed shortly after take-off in Ahmedabad on Thursday afternoon. The aircraft struck the BJ Medical College Civil Hospital mess and the Atulyam Hostel, home to senior resident doctors.

Only one passenger, 38-year-old Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a British national of Indian origin, survived. His brother, Ajay Kumar Rakesh, 45, also on board, was among the deceased.

Authorities believe the remaining fatalities include local residents who were near the crash site. Official confirmation is pending.

Identification Efforts and Injuries
A total of 50 people were injured, according to a state press release. Of them:

16 are being treated as outpatients,

12 are stable and likely to be discharged soon,

the rest remain in ICU care.

So far, eight victims have been identified and their bodies handed over to families. DNA samples from 219 relatives are being analyzed by 10 forensic science teams, which are also examining the aircraft’s black box and crash evidence.

Rapid Response and Rescue Ops
Fire crews reached the site within three minutes of the crash. In total:

612 fire personnel and 139 units of equipment,

250+ Army personnel,

1 RAF team, and

3 NDRF-SDRF teams were deployed.

Firefighters rescued over 30 people from the wreckage. A special dog squad is assisting in locating human remains.

A green corridor was created to expedite the transport of the injured. More than 100 ambulances were dispatched to the site.

Government Action and Support
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel directed state systems to prioritize relief efforts. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the crash site and assured central assistance.

The Gujarat government has:
Set up 24×7 control rooms at the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) and Civil Hospital,

Deployed four IAS officers to assist families of victims,

Provided housing and transportation for relatives of the deceased.

Additionally, 150 personnel, 41 dumpers, 16 JCBs, and 3 excavators have been stationed to assist with debris removal and investigations in coordination with the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
