A 58-year-old man was arrested in Rajasthan’s Nagaur district on Sunday after police recovered a massive cache of explosives, including 9,550 kg of ammonium nitrate, from his residence and agricultural field, officials said.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a special police team raided the house of the accused, identified as Suleman Khan, in Thanvla area of Nagaur and seized the explosive materials, said Superintendent of Police Mridul Kachhwa.

During the operation, police recovered 187 cartons of ammonium nitrate, along with nine carton detonators, 15 bundles of blue wick wire, and nine bundles of red wick wire.

According to officials, the explosives had been concealed at Khan’s field.

The accused has three previous cases registered against him under the Explosives Act at Thanvla, Padukallan in Nagaur, and Chaupasni in Alwar district, the SP said.

Following the seizure, Khan was arrested and booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Explosives Act, 1884.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused supplied explosives to mine operators. However, given the unusually large quantity recovered, police suspect his possible involvement in a larger conspiracy.

“We may also approach central agencies for further interrogation,” a senior police officer said.

Officials noted that ammonium nitrate has been used in several major blasts in the past, including an explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort in November 2025.

Recent Explosive Seizures in Rajasthan

The arrest comes amid a series of recent recoveries of illegal explosives in the state.

On December 2, police seized a pickup truck carrying illegal explosive materials in Nathdwara, capable of causing destruction within a radius of nearly 10 kilometres. The consignment included 83 packets of ICL Prime X explosives, 981 cartridges packed in 109 cartons, 100 truck line detonators, 93 detonators with DT fuses, and a 30-foot safety fuse.

A day later, police arrested two men in Tonk district and recovered 150 kg of ammonium nitrate from their possession.
