PM Modi Clarifies to Trump: No US Mediation in India-Pakistan Ceasefire.

In a recent phone call with former US President Donald Trump, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made it clear that the United States played no role in mediating the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan. Modi also denied any discussions around a US-India trade deal during the conflict.

This was the first direct communication between the two leaders since India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, following the terror attack in Pahalgam. The call, which lasted around 35 minutes, was initiated at Trump’s request and came ahead of his scheduled meeting with Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir.

Trump had previously claimed that his mediation efforts and trade pressure contributed to halting hostilities between the two South Asian nations. However, India has dismissed those claims, asserting that the ceasefire was the result of direct military-to-military dialogue, initiated by Pakistan.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, briefing the media, said, “PM Modi conveyed that India’s military action was targeted, proportionate, and designed to avoid escalation. At no stage did India engage in any dialogue regarding trade with the US or accept any mediation in its conflict with Pakistan.”

He added, “All talks regarding the cessation of hostilities were conducted directly with Pakistan through the pre-established military communication channels, and at Pakistan’s request.” The scheduled meeting between Modi and Trump on the sidelines of the G7 Summit was cancelled after Trump returned to the US amid rising tensions in the Middle East.
