Vaughan Trolls India After Headingley Defeat, Upgrades Prediction to 4-0 England Win.

Michael Vaughan has once again stirred the pot. After England’s thrilling five-wicket win over India in the first Test at Headingley, the former England captain upped his series prediction to a 4-0 sweep — and he made sure Wasim Jaffer heard it.

Vaughan, known for his cheeky exchanges with Jaffer on social media, posted on X (formerly Twitter) soon after England sealed the win:

“Evening @WasimJaffer14.. Hope you are ok.. #1-0”

Jaffer fired back:
“Happy that a young Indian team got you worried like this. Enjoy the win, Michael, we’ll be back.”

But Vaughan had the final word — at least for now:
“Could be 4-0 now, Wasim.”

The result has sparked concern for India, especially since they made history — for the wrong reason. Despite five players scoring centuries across the match, they still lost — a first in Test cricket history. The team’s inability to defend 371, despite a dominant position for most of the game, has raised tough questions for head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Shubman Gill.

England’s chase was led by opener Ben Duckett, who smashed a brilliant 149 off 170 balls in the fourth innings. His fearless approach drew high praise from Vaughan, who wrote in The Telegraph:

“Pound for pound, I reckon he is the best all-format batsman in international cricket right now… On current form, I’d take Ben over Travis Head or Aiden Markram, especially as he does it from the toughest position — opening.” Vaughan also lauded Duckett’s creativity and confidence, particularly his use of reverse sweeps against Ravindra Jadeja.
“There’s a bit of genius about him… he plays with a smile, has incredible hand-eye coordination, and always seems one step ahead,” he added.

With four Tests to go and England leading 1-0, the heat is on India. They’ll need more than centuries next time — they’ll need composure, sharper tactics, and answers for a rampaging England side that has clearly found its rhythm.
