BJP Questions Law College Admission of Rape Accused Amid Ongoing Kolkata Case.

The South Calcutta Law College rape case has taken a new turn, with the BJP raising serious concerns over the college admission of one of the accused. BJP IT Cell head Amit Malviya on Monday alleged that Zaib Ahmed, one of the three arrested in the case, secured admission to the law college despite performing poorly in the Calcutta University Law Entrance Test (CULET-UG 2024).

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Malviya claimed Ahmed ranked 2634 in the entrance exam but was still admitted, while “meritorious and law-abiding students with far better ranks are being denied admission.” He questioned the process, stating, “Who gave Zaib Ahmed a seat in this prestigious law college? Who is protecting him? We demand answers. And we demand them NOW.”

Zaib Ahmed, along with Manojit Mishra and Pramit Mukherjee, has been charged with gang rape and criminal conspiracy. The incident occurred on June 25, when the accused allegedly raped a 24-year-old law student inside the security guard’s room on the college campus after she rejected a marriage proposal from Mishra.

According to police, Mishra forcibly took the woman to the room and assaulted her while Ahmed and Mukherjee allegedly filmed the act. The security guard was reportedly instructed to stay outside during the assault.

The case has triggered widespread protests across Kolkata, with public outrage reminiscent of the RG Kar Medical College incident in August 2024, in which a postgraduate student was raped and murdered on campus.

With the investigation ongoing, the BJP’s allegations have added political pressure on university authorities and state officials to explain how Ahmed secured admission and whether due process was followed.
