Former Tennis Player Radhika Yadav Shot Dead by Father Over ‘Taunts and Reputation Fears’, Says FIR
Gurugram, July 11:

A 25-year-old former national-level tennis player, Radhika Yadav, was allegedly shot dead by her father, Deepak Yadav, at their home in Gurugram’s Sector 57 on Thursday morning. According to the FIR filed by a family member, Deepak cited social pressure and repeated taunts from villagers about living off his daughter’s earnings as the reason behind the crime.

The accused, who reportedly confessed to police at the scene, claimed that remarks questioning Radhika’s character and his perceived dependence on her financially had driven him to the edge.

Attack in the Kitchen, Three Shots Fired
The incident occurred around 10:30 am while Radhika was in the kitchen preparing food. Her father allegedly approached from behind and shot her three times using his licensed .32 bore revolver. The gun was later recovered from the drawing room table, loaded with one live round and five empty shells.

She was rushed to Asia Maringo Hospital by her uncle and cousin but was declared dead on arrival.

From National Player to Tennis Coach
Once a rising name in Indian tennis, Radhika had represented the country at the national level and won several trophies before a shoulder injury forced her out of competitive play. She later opened a tennis academy, coaching children and running the venture independently.

Police say Deepak had objected multiple times to the academy’s operation and wanted her to shut it down. Radhika had refused.

Family Responds: ‘No Warning, No Justification’
Radhika’s uncle, Kuldeep Yadav, who lives on the ground floor, filed the police complaint and said he had no prior indication that Deepak could act violently. Kuldeep and his son Piyush were the first to reach the scene after hearing gunshots and found Radhika lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen.

Her mother, Manju Yadav, told police she was resting in another room due to illness and only heard the shots. She denied any serious family conflict and said Radhika had always upheld the family’s honour.

Case Registered, Investigation Underway
The Gurugram police have registered a case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act. Forensic teams collected blood samples, fingerprints, and other evidence from the crime scene.

Deepak Yadav is currently in police custody. The investigation is ongoing.
