PM Modi Flags Off 4 Amrit Bharat Trains, Launches ₹7,200-Cr Projects in Bihar.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday flagged off four Amrit Bharat trains from Motihari in Bihar and launched multiple development initiatives worth over ₹7,200 crore. The visit comes ahead of the state’s Assembly elections due later this year.

New Train Routes to Improve Connectivity
The newly introduced Amrit Bharat trains will operate on the following routes:

Rajendra Nagar Terminal (Patna) – New Delhi

Bapudham Motihari – Delhi (Anand Vihar Terminal)

Darbhanga – Lucknow (Gomti Nagar)

Malda Town – Lucknow (Gomti Nagar) via Bhagalpur

In addition, several major railway infrastructure upgrades were inaugurated:

Automatic signalling on the Samastipur–Bachhwara and Bhatni–Chhapra Gramin lines

Doubling of the Darbhanga–Thalwara and Samastipur–Rambhadrapur rail sections under a ₹580 crore project

Development of a Vande Bharat train maintenance facility at Patliputra

Doubling of the Darbhanga–Narkatiaganj rail line, a ₹4,080 crore project aimed at enhancing capacity for passenger and freight trains across North Bihar

Support for Housing and Livelihoods
PM Modi also participated in a Griha Pravesh ceremony, handing over house keys to 12,000 beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Gramin, and disbursed over ₹160 crore to 40,000 other recipients of the scheme.

In a major push for women-led development, ₹400 crore was released to around 61,500 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM). According to the government, over 10 crore women have been linked to SHGs across the country.

Political Backdrop Ahead of Assembly Polls
The Prime Minister’s visit to Bihar is seen as a strategic move ahead of the Assembly elections likely to be held in October or November. The Election Commission of India is yet to announce official dates.

Currently, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA)—comprising the BJP, JD(U), HAM(S), and Independents—holds 131 out of 243 seats in the Bihar Assembly. The Opposition’s INDIA bloc, made up of the RJD, Congress, and Left parties, has 111 seats, with the RJD alone holding 77.

As the poll battle nears, the launch of new infrastructure and welfare projects is expected to play a prominent role in the political narrative leading up to the elections.
