Rishabh Pant Gives Injury Update After Being Ruled Out of Final Test.
India vice-captain Rishabh Pant has shared an update on his right foot injury after being officially ruled out of the fifth and final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Taking to social media on Sunday, the wicketkeeper-batter expressed gratitude for the support he’s received and confirmed that he will begin rehabilitation once the fracture heals.
“Appreciate all the love and good wishes coming my way. It’s been a real source of strength. I will begin rehab once my fracture heals and I am slowly settling into the process,” Pant wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “Playing for my country has always been the proudest moment of my life. Can’t wait to be back doing what I love.”
Pant sustained the injury on Day 1 of the fourth Test in Manchester after inside-edging a reverse sweep off Chris Woakes onto his foot while batting on 37. He collapsed in pain and had to be taken off the field on a golf cart. Scans later confirmed a fracture that is expected to sideline him for at least six weeks.
Remarkably, Pant returned to bat the following day, scoring a courageous half-century despite limping and battling visible discomfort. His knock helped India surpass the 350-run mark. He even offered to bat again in the second innings if needed, but Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja guided India to a fighting draw, keeping the series level.
The BCCI confirmed on Sunday that Pant will miss the series decider at The Oval, starting July 31. “The BCCI Medical Team will continue to monitor his progress, and the team wishes him a speedy recovery,” the board said in a statement.
Pant has been one of India’s standout performers in the series, amassing 479 runs in seven innings, including twin centuries in the opening Test at Headingley. He also impressed at Lord’s with a gritty 74 in the first innings, despite being struck on the hand while standing up to Jasprit Bumrah.
In Pant’s absence, Dhruv Jurel will take over wicketkeeping duties for the final Test, while Narayan Jagadeesan has been added to the squad as cover.
