Son Heung-Min Confirms Tottenham Exit: “I’ve Achieved Everything I Can Here”

Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-Min has announced he will leave the club this summer, bringing the curtain down on a storied nine-year career in North London. Son, who joined Spurs in 2015, revealed his decision during a press conference ahead of the club’s pre-season friendly against Newcastle United in South Korea. The 33-year-old forward described the move as “the most difficult decision” of his career but said it was time for a new chapter.

“I just want to share that I’ve decided to leave this club this summer,” Son said. “Respectfully, the club is helping me with this decision.” He added, “It was the most difficult decision I’ve made in my career. The main reason is that I’ve achieved everything I can at Tottenham. I need a new environment for a fresh challenge.”

Over nearly a decade, Son established himself as one of the most beloved players in the club’s modern history. He scored 160 goals for Spurs, becoming their fifth-highest all-time scorer, and claimed the Premier League Golden Boot in the 2021–22 season. He also helped Tottenham lift the Europa League title last season.

“I came to North London as a kid—a boy who couldn’t speak English. I leave this club as a man,” Son said. “Thanks to all the Spurs fans who have given me so much love.” Son is widely expected to move to Major League Soccer, with Los Angeles FC emerging as a leading candidate for his signature.

Sunday’s match against Newcastle could be Son’s final appearance for the club. He confirmed that he has already informed a few long-time teammates about his decision.

“I spoke with only a few guys, ones I’ve spent a long time with,” he said. “They were disappointed, but respectful. I’m very close to Ben [Davies], and we’ve talked a few times about the future. It’s always hard to tell your teammates, especially when you spend more time with them than your own family.”

As Son prepares for the next stage of his career, Tottenham fans are set to bid farewell to a modern icon — one who leaves behind a legacy built on loyalty, goals, and unforgettable moments.
