Trump Jokes About ‘Liking’ Hillary Clinton After Nobel Peace Prize Remark.
US President Donald Trump said he might “have to start liking” his former political rival Hillary Clinton after she suggested she would nominate him for a Nobel Peace Prize if he successfully negotiated peace between Russia and Ukraine.
Trump made the comment during an interview with journalist Bret Baier aboard Air Force One. He was reacting to Clinton’s remarks that she would support his nomination if he secured a deal that ended the war without concessions to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“Well, that was very nice,” Trump said. “I may have to start liking her again.”
Clinton’s Conditional Support
Speaking on the Raging Moderates podcast, Clinton said she would nominate Trump for the award if he managed to broker peace while preserving Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
“If he could end this terrible war without Ukraine conceding its territory to the aggressor, could really stand up to Putin… I’d nominate him for a Nobel Peace Prize,” Clinton said. “My goal here is to not allow capitulation to Putin.”
Trump-Putin Talks in Alaska
Clinton’s comments came as Trump met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska for high-level talks on ending the three-year conflict. Ahead of the meeting, Trump told reporters he wanted a ceasefire “today” and would “not be happy” with anything less.
A Long Rivalry
Trump and Clinton’s rivalry has been one of the defining features of US politics in recent years. Clinton, who lost to Trump in the 2016 election, had often criticised his stance on Russia and described him as “temperamentally unfit” for office.
Her latest remarks mark a rare note of conditional praise for the president, even as their political differences remain stark.
