Elon Musk Sues Apple, OpenAI Over iPhone AI Monopoly Claims
Elon Musk has sued Apple Inc. and OpenAI, alleging they struck an exclusive deal that unfairly gives ChatGPT dominance on iPhones while sidelining rival chatbots.
Filed by Musk’s X and xAI in federal court in Fort Worth, Texas, the lawsuit claims Apple’s integration of OpenAI into its operating system makes ChatGPT the default AI assistant and ensures its visibility atop the App Store, depriving users of choice and competitors of fair access.
Musk, whose Grok AI competes with ChatGPT, called the arrangement a move to “lock up markets” and block innovation. The case sets up a high-stakes legal battle between the world’s richest man and one of its most valuable tech giants.
Apple and OpenAI have yet to respond to the allegations. The dispute adds to Musk’s long-running feud with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, dating back to their split after co-founding the company.
The lawsuit comes as Apple already faces global scrutiny over its App Store dominance, including a five-year fight with Epic Games.
