FIR Against Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and Hyundai Officials Over Defective Car Complaint.

An FIR has been registered in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, against Bollywood actors Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, along with six Hyundai officials, in connection with allegations of fraud related to the promotion of a vehicle with manufacturing defects.

The complaint was filed by local resident Kirti Singh, who alleged that his Hyundai Alcazar SUV, purchased in June 2022 for ₹23.97 lakh, began developing serious technical issues within months of use. According to Singh, the car produced unusual vibrations and noises at high speeds and frequently displayed engine malfunction warnings.

When he reported the matter to the dealer, Singh claimed he was told the defects were inherent to the model and could not be fixed. He then approached the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Bharatpur, which directed the Mathura Gate police to register a case. The FIR has been filed under Section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code and other relevant provisions.

The case gains significance in light of a 2023 Supreme Court ruling that made celebrity endorsers liable for misleading or deceptive advertising. Shah Rukh Khan has endorsed Hyundai since 1998, while Deepika Padukone came on board as a brand ambassador in December 2023. The two featured together in a Hyundai advertisement last year.

Neither Khan nor Padukone has commented on the FIR so far.
