Kejriwal Dares PM Modi to Impose 75% Tariffs on US Imports.
Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to retaliate against Washington’s trade measures by slapping a 75 per cent tariff on American imports. His remarks came after the US imposed a 50 per cent duty on Indian goods.
“The whole country is standing behind you. America has imposed 50 per cent tariff on our exports. You impose 75 per cent on their imports—Trump will have to bow down,” Kejriwal said at a press conference.
He also criticised the Centre’s move to waive the 11 per cent duty on US cotton imports until December 2025, warning it would undercut Indian farmers. “US farmers are being enriched while our farmers, especially in Gujarat, are being pushed into distress,” he said, adding that growers burdened with loans could face a crisis during the upcoming harvest season.
Kejriwal accused the Modi government of “bowing down” to US pressure and demanded the restoration of the cotton duty, a guaranteed Minimum Support Price, and relief measures for farmers. The Centre has defended the waiver, saying it will benefit small and medium enterprises by boosting export markets.
