FIR Filed Against Singapore Event Manager After Zubeen Garg’s Death.

Assamese singer Zubeen Garg tragically died on September 19, 2025, following a scuba diving accident in Singapore. He was rescued from the sea by authorities and taken to Singapore General Hospital, but could not be saved.

An FIR has been lodged at Morigaon Police Station in Assam against Shyamkanu Mahanta, manager of the 4th North East India Festival. Advocate Ratul Borah accused Mahanta of negligence and criminal misconduct, alleging that his decisions contributed to Garg’s death.

Reports suggest Garg went for a swim without a life jacket ahead of his scheduled performance on September 20 and suffered a heart attack. His body remains in Singapore for post-mortem and is expected to be sent to Assam for funeral rites.

Following the tragedy, the 4th North East India Festival was cancelled. Organisers expressed grief over Garg’s passing and confirmed the cancellation as a mark of respect.
