Asia Cup: ICC reprimands Afghanistan’s Noor Ahmad, Mujeeb Ur Rahman for code breaches.

Afghanistan’s Asia Cup campaign ended with disciplinary setbacks as spinners Noor Ahmad and Mujeeb Ur Rahman were officially reprimanded for separate Level 1 breaches of the ICC Code of Conduct during their group-stage loss to Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi. Both players also received one demerit point each, their first within the current 24-month cycle.

Noor was sanctioned under Article 2.8 for showing dissent at an umpire’s wide call in the 16th over, while Mujeeb was found guilty under Article 2.2 after breaking the stumps with his towel in frustration.

Match referee Richie Richardson imposed the sanctions after both players admitted their offences. The charges were levelled by umpires Asif Yaqoob, Virender Sharma, Faisal Afridi and Rohan Pandit.

Level 1 offences carry penalties ranging from reprimands to fines of up to 50% of a player’s match fee, along with possible demerit points. Four or more demerit points in a 24-month period convert into suspension points, leading to automatic bans.

The sanctions capped Afghanistan’s disappointing campaign, as they exited after consecutive defeats. Sri Lanka sealed a six-wicket win to advance unbeaten into the Super Four stage with Bangladesh.
