Mohanlal to be Honoured with Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023.
Malayalam cinema icon Mohanlal will receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023, the highest recognition in Indian cinema, at the 71st National Film Awards ceremony on September 23, 2025. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced the honour on Tuesday, crediting the actor’s “iconic contribution” to Indian cinema.
In its statement on X, the ministry wrote: “On the recommendation of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award Selection Committee, the Government of India is pleased to announce that Shri Mohanlal will be conferred the prestigious award. His remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the veteran actor, calling him an epitome of excellence and versatility. He praised Mohanlal’s work across Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi films, and noted his deep commitment to Kerala’s cultural traditions.
With a career spanning over four decades and more than 340 films, Mohanlal is celebrated as one of India’s greatest actors. He has previously won five National Film Awards, including two Best Actor honours and one as a producer.
