Senior Haryana Police Officer Dismissed After Being Named in IPS Officer’s Suicide Case.

A senior Haryana Police officer has been dismissed from service after being named in the suicide case of Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Vineet Kumar, whose death earlier this week sent shockwaves through the state’s law enforcement circles.

The dismissed officer, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ashok Kumar, was named in the suicide note allegedly left behind by Vineet Kumar, who was posted as Commandant of the 3rd Indian Reserve Battalion in Sunaria, Rohtak.

The Incident

According to police sources, the 2014-batch IPS officer Vineet Kumar was found dead at his official residence on Tuesday morning. Preliminary investigations suggest that he died by suicide. A handwritten note recovered from the scene reportedly mentioned the names of a few individuals, including DIG Ashok Kumar, holding them responsible for “harassment and mental torture.”

Following the recovery of the note, Haryana’s Home Department initiated an internal inquiry. Acting on the report’s findings, the state government issued dismissal orders against DIG Ashok Kumar late Friday evening, citing “grave misconduct and violation of service conduct rules.”

Government Action and Probe

Officials said the government took the step under provisions of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, following an assessment that the officer’s continued presence in service could impede the investigation.

A senior Haryana government official confirmed that the case has been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for a comprehensive probe. “All aspects, including the allegations mentioned in the note, are being thoroughly examined,” the official said.

The state’s Director General of Police (DGP) also assured that the investigation will be “transparent and impartial.”

Family Demands Justice

Family members of the late IPS officer have demanded strict action against those responsible for his death. “Vineet was an honest and upright officer who faced constant pressure from seniors. We want justice and accountability,” his brother said.

Wider Repercussions

The incident has reignited discussions about the mental health challenges faced by police officers across the country. Senior IPS officers have called for better mechanisms to address workplace harassment and stress management within the force.
