Australia Faces Major Absences Ahead of ODI Series vs India.
Australia’s injury problems have worsened ahead of the three-match ODI series against India. Already missing Pat Cummins, Glenn Maxwell, and Cameron Green, the team will now also be without Josh Inglis and Adam Zampa for the series opener.
Inglis, sidelined during New Zealand’s T20Is due to a calf strain, has not recovered in time and is expected to miss the first two ODIs. Zampa will sit out the opening match for family reasons.
With both first-choice keepers unavailable—Alex Carey is playing Sheffield Shield ahead of the Ashes and Inglis injured—Josh Philippe is set to step in. Philippe, who replaced Maxwell in the recent T20I series against New Zealand but did not get a game, will make his first ODI appearance since 2021. He has three ODIs to his name, scoring 65 runs so far.
Australia’s Key Absences:
- Josh Inglis: Out with a right calf strain, missing New Zealand T20Is and the first two ODIs versus India.
- Cameron Green: Prioritising Ashes preparation, will miss the T20I series against India.
- Pat Cummins: ODI and Test captain unlikely to return until the second Ashes Test.
Australia now faces the series opener against India with a heavily weakened side, relying on Philippe and other replacements to fill critical roles.
