Haryana DGP Shatrujeet Kapur Placed on Leave Following IPS Officer Suicide.

Haryana’s Director-General of Police (DGP) Shatrujeet Kapur has been sent on leave after senior IPS officer Y Puran Kumar allegedly named him and seven other officers in his suicide note, accusing them of harassment and discrimination. A formal investigation is underway.

Kumar, a 2001-batch IPS officer serving as Inspector General at Rohtak’s Police Training Centre, was found dead at his Chandigarh residence on October 7. His eight-page note reportedly cited harassment, caste-based discrimination, and professional isolation, singling out DGP Kapur and former Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarniya. Following the disclosure, Bijarniya was transferred.

Kapur, who took charge as Haryana DGP in August 2023, has previously served as Director General of the state Anti-Corruption Bureau and with the CBI, handling sensitive cases at both state and national levels.

The suicide is also linked to a bribery case involving a head constable who allegedly demanded Rs 2.5 lakh from a liquor contractor in Kumar’s name; the constable is now in judicial custody.

Haryana Social Justice Minister Krishan Kumar Bedi stated that the government is committed to ensuring justice for Kumar’s family. Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi and Chief Principal Secretary Rajesh Khullar met the family to address their concerns.
