Michael Clarke Backs Virat Kohli to Bounce Back in Sydney ODI.
Despite a poor start to the India-Australia ODI series, where Virat Kohli recorded consecutive ducks in Perth and Adelaide, former Australia captain Michael Clarke believes the Indian star can shine in the final ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
Speaking on the Beyond23 Cricket Podcast, Clarke predicted Kohli to be the top run-scorer in Saturday’s match. “I will go with Joshy for leading wicket-taker in this game. I’ve gone with Virat so far; he’s got two ducks. I am going to go with Virat Kohli for leading run-scorer in this game. Hazlewood leading wickets and Virat leading run-scorer,” he said.
Clarke also expects India to win the third ODI, saying it would give the team a positive note before the upcoming T20Is. “India won’t want to leave without a win. Players will want to carry confidence into the T20s,” he added.
Kohli’s Struggles and SCG Record
Kohli has faced just 12 balls without scoring a run in the first two ODIs, raising questions about his form. Critics have pointed to technical flaws and a lack of his usual intensity. Historically, his record at the SCG isn’t reassuring: seven matches, 146 runs, an average of 24.33, and only one half-century.
Australia’s Setup and Series Context
Australia have already sealed the series 2-0. Mitchell Starc is expected to return alongside Josh Hazlewood, who Clarke has tipped as Australia’s main threat with the ball.
What the Final ODI Means
The third ODI offers India a chance to salvage pride and for Kohli to rediscover his form. Australia will look to finish strong. With the series outcome decided, the match promises strategic battles, momentum shifts, and insights into players’ confidence heading into the T20Is, making it an intriguing contest for fans.
