“Jail Ka Faatak Tootega”: Pro-Anant Singh Posters Surface in Mokama Ahead of Bihar Poll Results.

Supporters of Anant Singh, the JDU candidate from Mokama, have put up posters in his constituency ahead of the Bihar Assembly election results, even as he remains in jail in a murder case. One of the posters read:

“Jail ka faatak tootega, hamara sher chootega”
(The prison gates will break, our lion will be released)

Singh, a former Bihar MLA and political strongman, was arrested on November 2 for the murder of Dular Chand Yadav, a Jan Suraaj Party supporter. Yadav, a former RJD associate turned gangster-politician, was killed while campaigning in Mokama for Priyadarshi Piyush, who is contesting on a Jan Suraaj Party ticket.

The post-mortem report confirmed Yadav died of cardiorespiratory failure caused by blunt force injuries to the heart and lungs. Following the incident, three people, including Anant Singh, were arrested.

Known for his stronghold in Mokama, Singh has 28 criminal cases against him and has won the seat five times since making his debut in 2005. He left JDU in 2015 after Nitish Kumar allied with Lalu Prasad Yadav’s RJD, won as an Independent, joined RJD in 2020, and lost his seat in 2022 after a conviction in an arms case. His wife, Neelam Devi, retained Mokama in the subsequent bye-election. Singh has now returned to JDU.
