A high-profile gathering of national leaders is set to witness Nitish Kumar take oath as Bihar Chief Minister for the tenth time on November 20 at Patna’s historic Gandhi Maidan.
The swearing-in follows the formal dissolution of the Bihar Assembly, clearing the path for the NDA’s return to power in the state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the ceremony as the chief guest, leading to heightened security and extensive arrangements at the venue. Police deployment, stage preparations and logistical work began on Monday to accommodate the large turnout of leaders and party workers.
Joining the Prime Minister will be top BJP leaders including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and party president JP Nadda — a show of the party’s strengthened position after emerging as the single largest party in the Assembly elections.
Chief Ministers from BJP, NDA to Attend
A sizeable group of Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers from BJP- and NDA-ruled states is also expected at the event. Confirmed attendees include Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will also be present, while Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is likely to attend.
Nitish Kumar, who has already served nine terms, will be sworn in for a record tenth time — a rare milestone in Bihar’s political history. In the recent Assembly elections, the NDA secured more than 200 seats in the 243-member House, with the BJP winning 89 seats and the JD(U) 85, cementing the alliance’s commanding mandate.
