Goa Police Detain Nightclub Co-owner Ajay Gupta Four Days After Fire That Killed 25.

Goa Police have detained Ajay Gupta, one of the four co-owners of the ‘Birch by Romeo Lane’ nightclub, following the deadly fire on December 7 that claimed 25 lives. Gupta, who had been evading authorities, was apprehended in Delhi after a Look-Out Circular was issued against him.

A police spokesperson told PTI, “Gupta is the sixth person to be detained in connection with the case. He will be formally arrested once procedures to bring him to Goa are completed.” Earlier arrests in the case include the nightclub’s chief general manager Rajiv Modak, general manager Vivek Singh, bar manager Rajiv Singhania, gate manager Riyanshu Thakur, and employee Bharat Kohli.

Authorities have also issued a Look-Out Circular for co-owner Surinder Kumar Khosla, while two other owners, Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra, fled to Phuket, Thailand, prompting a Blue Corner Notice against them. Saurabh Luthra expressed grief on Instagram, stating that the management stands in solidarity with the families of the deceased and injured.

The tragedy prompted further action after authorities found that another Romeo Lane property at Vagator Beach violated fire safety norms and was built illegally on government land. The property was demolished on Tuesday under orders from Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
