Trump Warns Russia-Ukraine War Could Trigger World War 3.
US President Donald Trump on Friday warned that the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict could escalate into a global war if fighting continues, urging an immediate halt to hostilities. “Everybody keeps playing games like this, we’ll end up in a third world war, and we don’t want that,” he said, expressing concern over an estimated 25,000 deaths in the past month alone.
Trump made the remarks after signing an executive order to prevent a patchwork of state-level AI regulations, and during a White House interaction, stressed that the US was pushing for a breakthrough in the four-year-old war. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the President is “extremely frustrated” with both Moscow and Kyiv and wants action, not talk, in ongoing mediation efforts.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed Kyiv submitted a 20-point counterproposal to the US, including ideas to create a “free economic zone” in parts of Donetsk, but stressed that any territorial compromise would require a national referendum.
The diplomatic push coincides with warnings from NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, who urged European allies to ramp up defense spending and production, cautioning that Russia could target NATO within five years if Europe remains unprepared. “Conflict is at our door. Russia has brought war back to Europe, and we must be ready,” he said.
