Taylor Swift’s longtime dancer and choreographer Kam Saunders shared a deeply emotional moment with his mother, Kim Hamilton, in the second episode of the six-part docuseries.
The End of an Era, which premiered on December 12. The scene has since struck a chord with fans. Ahead of one of his Eras Tour performances, Hamilton—who required a wheelchair to move around the venue—said she was excited to watch her son perform, even as she insisted she had no intention of sitting still.
“My knee is doing better, and I don’t really want to be in the wheelchair,” she said. “I need it a little to get me there, but I wanna dance.” Joking about the wheelchair section, Hamilton said she planned to “pop off” during the show. “I might feel like a hypocrite. I think they’ll come and take the wheelchair,” she laughed.
Saunders playfully asked his mother what “popping off” looked like, teasing her about the dance moves she planned to show. Hamilton replied that her style included shimmies and rolls—and often featured choreography created by Saunders and his team for Taylor Swift’s concerts.
“Sometimes there’s a shimmy, sometimes it’s a roll. And a lot of times it’s your guys’ choreography too,” she said. The moment grew lighter and nostalgic as Hamilton danced along to Swift’s Shake It Off and …Ready for It?, prompting laughter from Saunders.
Later in the episode, Saunders reflected on his mother’s sacrifices and the support she has given him and his brother throughout their journey. “I’ve seen so many sacrifices—for us to be able to do what we’re doing and to follow those dreams with everything we have,” he said.
Saunders added that including his mother in his career milestones is non-negotiable. “I will never not have you in these spaces with me and celebrating with me,” he said. “Just as hard as I’ve worked, I know how hard you’ve worked for us. That’s why I try so hard to take care of you.”
