Karnataka Survey Finds 91% Believe Elections Are Fair; BJP Slams Congress Amid Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Vote Theft’ Claims.

A government survey in Karnataka has found that over 91% of respondents trust that elections in the state are free and fair, reinforcing confidence in Electronic Voting Machines. The findings have given the BJP a new opportunity to attack the ruling Congress, particularly amid Rahul Gandhi’s “vote theft” campaign, where Karnataka’s Kalaburagi division featured prominently.

Senior BJP leader R Ashoka called the survey “a slap on the face of Congress,” adding, “While citizens show confidence, Congress shows doubt. This drama is driven by fear, not concern for democracy.” BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla criticized Rahul Gandhi, calling him the “Leader of Propaganda,” and noted that even his allies have contradicted his vote manipulation claims.

The study, titled “Lok Sabha Elections 2024 – Evaluation of Endline Survey of Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of Citizens,” was conducted by the Karnataka Monitoring and Evaluation Authority. Researchers surveyed 5,100 respondents across 102 constituencies in Bengaluru, Belagavi, Kalaburagi, and Mysuru.

Confidence was highest in Kalaburagi, with 84.67% agreeing and 10.19% strongly agreeing that elections were fair. Belagavi and Mysuru also showed strong voter trust. The survey comes after IT Minister Priyank Kharge raised concerns about alleged voter deletions before the 2023 Karnataka election, which Rahul Gandhi cited in his campaign.

The results highlight strong public faith in the electoral process while giving the BJP a platform to challenge Congress amid ongoing political debate.
