Bengaluru Police have arrested two men for allegedly posting obscene and derogatory content on social media targeting Vijayalakshmi, the wife of Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa.
The arrests followed a complaint filed by Vijayalakshmi at the Cyber Crime Police Station on December 24, alleging that offensive, defamatory and abusive posts were being circulated against her and her family across multiple social media platforms. Police said the complainant described the posts as “low-level obscene and derogatory” and sought action against more than 18 individuals allegedly involved in spreading the content.
After registering a case, cyber crime officials examined digital evidence and social media activity linked to the posts, leading to the identification of two suspects. The accused were identified as Chandrashekar B (45), an autorickshaw driver from Chikkabanavara in Bengaluru, and Nithin (31), a software engineer from Davanagere. Police said both were taken into custody after confirming their involvement in sharing offensive content online.
In an official statement, city police said the accused had posted obscene and abusive messages against Vijayalakshmi and her family on platforms including Facebook and Instagram. “Further investigation is underway, and efforts are being made to trace the remaining accused,” the police said.
Darshan Thoogudeepa is currently facing trial in connection with the murder of Renukaswamy.
