The Election Commission (EC) has declined a request to recognise the Madhyamik (Class 10) admit card as a valid document for voter verification during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal.
In a letter dated January 15, the Commission informed the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal that the proposal had been examined but could not be approved. The communication was issued by the Commission’s Under Secretary.
The request, submitted earlier this month by state election officials, sought to add the Class 10 admit card to the list of documents accepted for verification. The EC said the admit card does not figure in its approved list under existing guidelines.
Citing its instructions issued on October 27, 2025, the Commission said only documents specified in that order are permissible for verification during the SIR exercise in the state.
“In view of the above, the Commission is of the opinion that the proposal to accept the Madhyamik (Class X) admit card as a valid document cannot be acceded to,” the letter said.
