Torchlight, Delayed Rescue: Video Captures Noida Techie’s Final Moments

A video has emerged showing the final moments of a 27-year-old software engineer who died after his car plunged into an 80-foot-deep, water-filled abandoned construction pit near his Sector 62 apartment in Noida.

The footage shows Yuvraj Singh sitting atop his partially submerged car inside a stormwater drain, repeatedly flashing his mobile phone’s torchlight for nearly two hours in an apparent attempt to signal for help. The distress signals went unnoticed.

Police on Tuesday arrested two more builders — Ravi Bansal and Sachin Karnwal of Lotus Green — in connection with the case. An FIR had earlier been filed against five builders, and Vish Town builder Abhay Kumar has already been sent to jail. Police said action against those found negligent is continuing.

The car involved in the incident was recovered on Tuesday, four days after the accident, as the investigation gathered pace. The case has triggered allegations of negligence, inadequate safety measures at the site and delays in rescue efforts.

The victim’s father alleged that timely professional intervention could have saved his son.

“If expert divers had gone in, my son might have survived,” he told reporters.

Meanwhile, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) set up by the Uttar Pradesh government began its probe on Tuesday. The three-member panel, headed by Additional Director General of Police (Meerut Zone) Bhanu Bhaskar, inspected the site and met officials of the Noida Authority to examine the circumstances leading to the incident.

The SIT has been asked to submit its report within five days.
