30,000 Security Personnel, AI Smart Glasses to Safeguard Republic Day in Delhi
Over 30,000 police officers and more than 70 paramilitary companies will be deployed across Delhi to secure the 77th Republic Day celebrations, officials said on Friday.
For the first time, AI-enabled smart glasses with facial recognition and thermal imaging will be used on the ground. Linked in real-time to police databases, the devices allow officers to instantly identify criminals, suspects, and proclaimed offenders in crowded areas.
“These wearable devices connect to mobile phones used by officers,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Devesh Kumar Mahla. “A green box appears if a person has no criminal record, while a red box signals a criminal record.”
Security Setup:
-
10,000 personnel stationed specifically in New Delhi.
-
Multi-layered barricades and six layers of frisking/checkpoints along the parade route.
-
4,000 rooftop security points identified across New Delhi, North, and Central districts.
-
500 high-resolution AI cameras installed along the route.
-
Thousands of CCTV cameras, including facial recognition-enabled cameras, with mobile FRS vehicles deployed.
-
All parade attendees to receive security stickers.
Preventive Measures:
-
Tenant and servant verification drives across the city.
-
Awareness sessions for taxi and auto-rickshaw drivers, vendors, and service providers.
-
Increased vigilance at bus stops, railway stations, and crowded markets.
-
Interstate coordination with neighboring police forces for joint preparedness.
Mahla added that mock drills with multiple agencies are underway to ensure readiness. “Delhi Police is fully prepared to tackle any situation,” he said.
