The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Saturday expressed deep concern over escalating tensions in the Middle East, urging all parties to exercise restraint and prioritise the safety of civilians.

“We urge all sides to avoid escalation and ensure the protection of civilians. Dialogue and diplomacy should guide efforts to resolve underlying issues. The sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations must be respected,” the MEA said.

The Indian government also confirmed that missions in the region are closely monitoring the situation and maintaining contact with Indian nationals. Advisories have been issued instructing citizens to stay vigilant, remain in touch with local missions, and follow official security guidance.

US–Israel strikes escalate Middle East crisis

Explosions rocked Tehran early Saturday after Israel carried out what it called pre-emptive strikes against Iranian targets, sharply heightening regional tensions.

“The State of Israel launched a pre-emptive attack against Iran to remove threats to the State of Israel,” said Israel Katz. Air raid sirens were activated across Tel Aviv, and a state of emergency was declared amid warnings of possible Iranian missile retaliation.

Donald Trump confirmed that the United States had joined the military operations, stating that “major combat operations in Iran” were underway. Trump also called on the Iranian public to challenge their leadership, raising fears of a potential regime change in Tehran.

The MEA reiterated the importance of peaceful resolution, urging diplomacy over conflict as the crisis continues to unfold.
