The Adani Group has been named an official partner for World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development (WED) 2026
An international day recognised by UNESCO and delivered by the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO). The announcement marks the first time an Indian organisation has been selected by WFEO for this global platform celebrating the contributions of engineers.
The partnership highlights the development of the Khavda Renewable Energy Park in Gujarat, which WFEO has identified as a key example of India’s energy transition. The project, currently under construction in the Kutch region, is expected to become the world’s largest renewable energy plant.
The facility is being developed by Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) in collaboration with Adani Energy Solutions and Adani New Industries. Spread across about 538 square kilometres of barren land, the project site covers an area roughly five times the size of Paris.
Speaking on the development, Sagar Adani said the initiative demonstrates how clean energy can be developed at scale while remaining accessible and inclusive. He added that the Khavda project reflects India’s commitment to climate action and represents the combined efforts of the Adani Group’s renewable and energy infrastructure businesses to build an integrated clean energy ecosystem.
The theme for WED 2026 is “Smart engineering for a sustainable future through innovation and digitalisation.” Organisers say the Adani Group’s work across renewable energy, digital infrastructure and large-scale transport and utility systems reflects this vision by showing how engineering and technology can support sustainable development.
At the centre of the collaboration is the Khavda renewable energy project, which is expected to have a planned capacity of 30 GW by 2029. WFEO has also highlighted the project as part of its World Engineering Day 2026 programme and produced a short film showcasing its scale, ambition and potential impact on India’s green energy transition.
