Trump says school strike that killed 150 ‘done by Iran’

US President Donald Trump on Saturday blamed Iran for a deadly strike that Iranian authorities said hit a school in the southern town of Minab in Hormozgan province.

“We think it was done by Iran. Because they are very inaccurate, as you know, with their munitions. They have no accuracy whatsoever,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One. Iranian officials said the strike hit a girls’ elementary school last Saturday, killing more than 150 people, most of them students.

Neither Israel nor the United States has claimed responsibility for the reported attack. US officials say the incident remains under investigation, while Tehran has blamed Washington. Agence France-Presse said it had been unable to access the site to independently verify the incident or confirm the reported death toll.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said Friday that it had targeted a US base in the United Arab Emirates in response to the strike. “Al Dhafra Air Base, belonging to American terrorists in the region, was targeted using drones and precision missiles,” the Guards said in a statement broadcast on state television.

The Pentagon confirmed it is investigating the incident, while US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington would “not deliberately target a school.”

Meanwhile, The New York Times reported that US military statements indicating attacks on naval targets near the Strait of Hormuz — where a Revolutionary Guards naval base is located — suggest American forces may have been responsible for the strike.

The newspaper said an analysis of social media posts, along with photos and videos from witnesses, indicated the school was struck at roughly the same time as the Guards’ naval base sites were targeted.
