UP Man Battles for Life After Military Strike Hits Saudi Residential Area, Family Seeks Help.
A 27-year-old man from Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, is fighting for his life after being severely injured in a military projectile strike that hit a residential area in Al-Kharj, Saudi Arabia, amid rising tensions in West Asia. The victim, Mohd Azam from Jafraabad village in Thakurdwara, had been working in Saudi Arabia as a diesel mechanic for over three years. He is currently on ventilator support at a government hospital in Riyadh.
Azam’s family has appealed to the Indian government and the Ministry of External Affairs for urgent assistance to ensure proper medical care and facilitate his return home. His brother, Kasim Ali, said, “He had gone there to earn a livelihood. Now he is critically injured and on a ventilator. We are poor and request the government’s help to bring him back.”
According to the Saudi Civil Defence, the strike hit a residential site belonging to a maintenance and cleaning company, killing two Bangladeshi nationals and injuring 11 others, including Azam. Property was also damaged in the attack. The Indian Embassy in Riyadh confirmed that no Indian citizens were killed and an official visited Azam in the hospital.
The Indian mission has advised all nationals in Saudi Arabia to remain vigilant and follow local safety guidelines. The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the Gulf following US and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28, which led to retaliatory attacks by Tehran and disrupted regional stability.
Azam’s family continues to seek government intervention to secure his treatment and safe return to India.
