Donald Trump waives century-old Jones Act to tackle fuel price surge amid Iran war

Donald Trump on Wednesday waived the century-old Jones Act to help rein in surging fuel prices amid the ongoing conflict involving the US, Israel and Iran, Bloomberg reported.

The temporary move allows foreign vessels to transport fuel between US ports, bypassing rules that restrict such trade to American-built, owned and crewed ships—aimed at speeding up supply and cutting costs.

The decision comes as oil prices climb above $100 a barrel and global supply chains face renewed strain after disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global energy flows.
