Emmanuel Macron on Friday reaffirmed that France will continue backing Ukraine despite escalating tensions in Iran.
His remarks came after the French navy intercepted an oil tanker suspected of being part of Russia’s sanctions-busting “shadow fleet,” highlighting Paris’s continued efforts to curb Moscow’s war financing.
“We are staying the course,” Macron said in a post on X, adding that the conflict involving Iran would not distract France from supporting Ukraine against Russia’s ongoing aggression.
The interception, carried out in coordination with allies, is part of broader European efforts to enforce sanctions and limit revenue streams funding the war in Ukraine.
