India went down 2–3 to hosts Denmark in their Uber Cup Group A opener on Friday, April 24, despite a strong start from PV Sindhu, who delivered a fighting win in the opening singles.
Sindhu gave India an early 1–0 lead with a 21-13, 18-21, 21-17 victory over Line Christophersen, showing composure in a tight decider after being pushed hard in the second game.
However, India failed to carry the momentum forward. Unnati Hooda and Tanvi Sharma lost their singles matches, allowing Denmark to turn the tie around and take a 2–1 lead. In the doubles rubber, Shruti Mishra and Priya Konjengbam also went down in a close contest, giving Denmark an unassailable advantage.
India did manage to pull one back in the final match, where Tanisha Crasto partnered with Sindhu to secure a consolation win and reduce the final margin to 2–3.
Despite Sindhu’s strong start and India’s fight in patches, Denmark held their nerve in the key moments to seal the opening Group A encounter.
