Vishal Supports Vijay and TVK Amid Hung Assembly, Warns of ‘Disastrous’ Scenario

Actor-turned-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has emerged as the single largest party in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, triggering a major political shake-up in a state long dominated by the DMK and AIADMK.

Despite its strong performance, TVK has fallen short of the majority mark in the 234-member House. The party has won 108 seats on its own and, with the support of five Congress MLAs, has reached 113—still below the 118 required to form the government. Amid this, reports suggest the DMK and AIADMK may explore a post-poll understanding to stake claim to power, adding further uncertainty to the political equation.

Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar has reportedly asked Vijay to submit proof of majority support before proceeding with government formation. According to sources, the Governor has sought a formal list of supporting MLAs and clarity on whether TVK can cross the halfway mark, while also indicating that constitutional options remain open for all sides.

In the middle of this tense standoff, actor Vishal came out in support of Vijay and TVK, warning against any alternative alliance forming the government. In a post on X, he said he feared a “disastrous and catastrophic” outcome if anything other than a TVK-led government—or an unexpected DMK-AIADMK combination—takes shape.

Vishal argued that the people’s mandate should be respected and pointed to previous examples in states like Goa, Manipur, Meghalaya, and Karnataka, where hung assemblies led to governments being formed first and later tested on the floor of the House.

He questioned the delay in allowing TVK to form government and insisted that the democratic process should follow the standard floor test mechanism once a party stakes claim with support.

Other film personalities, including Prakash Raj, Khusbu Sundar, and Kamal Haasan, have also weighed in on the evolving political scenario, expressing support for Vijay’s political journey. As post-poll negotiations and constitutional checks continue, Tamil Nadu now faces a crucial phase where government formation depends on shifting alliances and final confirmation of majority support.
