Delhi has been placed on high alert after intelligence agencies warned of possible terror threats involving improvised explosive devices (IEDs) targeting key locations in the national capital.
Following the alert, the Delhi Police intensified security arrangements across sensitive and crowded areas, launching extensive checking drives at several strategic points in the city. Additional security measures were also put in place outside the Delhi BJP state office and the BJP national headquarters, where police teams conducted inspections and installed extra barricading.
Sources said security personnel stationed at important installations could also be potential targets, prompting heightened vigilance across the capital.
The alert comes weeks after the Delhi Police Special Cell claimed to have busted a module allegedly linked to Pakistan-based gangster-terror operative Shahzad Bhatti, who investigators believe was working at the behest of Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the ISI. Nine people were arrested in connection with the case.
According to sources, investigators found during questioning that the accused were allegedly planning targeted killings in Delhi and had carried out reconnaissance of several high-profile locations, including a prominent temple in the city. Videos of these locations were allegedly shared with handlers across the border.
Officials suspect the group had planned attacks aimed at security personnel deployed at religious sites in an attempt to trigger panic and chaos. Sources also claimed that one of the accused had been assigned to carry out a grenade attack at a busy dhaba along the Delhi–Sonipat highway.
News agency PTI, quoting sources, reported that a military camp in Hisar was also allegedly surveyed and videos of the area were shared with handlers in Pakistan. Some police stations in Uttar Pradesh were reportedly among the suspected targets as well.
The latest security alert has revived concerns over terror activity in and around the capital. Last year, investigators uncovered an alleged Jaish-e-Mohammed-linked “white-collar terror module” after a deadly blast near Red Fort left 15 people dead and several injured. The probe had led to multiple arrests, including doctors and students allegedly linked to a wider extremist network.
