A witness in the Twisha Sharma death case has alleged that he was assaulted by friends of the prime accused, Samarth Singh, even as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) intensifies its probe into the high-profile case.

The witness, identified as Neeraj Dubey, claimed he was beaten on May 30 by individuals linked to Samarth Singh. Dubey, who runs a parlour near the residence of Samarth’s mother, Giribala Singh, had earlier been named as a witness during the recovery of evidence related to Twisha’s death.

Twisha Sharma, 33, was found dead under suspicious circumstances at her marital home in Bhopal on May 12. Her family has accused her husband, Samarth Singh, and mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, of murdering her. The case is currently under investigation by the CBI.

According to Dubey, the assault was connected to his role as a witness in the case. However, the accused side has offered a different version of events, claiming that Dubey arrived at a restaurant owned by a friend of Samarth Singh in an intoxicated state and created a disturbance after being asked to leave.

Following the incident, both sides approached the Katara Hills police station and lodged complaints. Police have launched an investigation to ascertain the sequence of events.

Katara Hills SHO Sunil Dubey said the restaurant owner had filed a complaint on the day of the incident, alleging that Neeraj had created a nuisance at the establishment. The witness’s allegations of assault surfaced before police could summon him for questioning in that matter.

Meanwhile, the CBI on Monday reconstructed the circumstances surrounding Twisha’s death at her marital home as part of its ongoing investigation.

Investigators brought Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh to the residence and recreated the scene using an 80-kg mannequin, roughly matching Twisha’s weight, along with a noose and the belt allegedly used in the hanging. The exercise was aimed at examining different aspects of the case and verifying available evidence.

A CBI team, including a woman officer, conducted a detailed inspection of the house and questioned eyewitnesses, family members and relatives present on the day of the incident, including Samarth Singh’s elder brother.

The agency continues to probe the circumstances surrounding Twisha Sharma’s death while also examining fresh developments linked to the case.
