Former Mrs Kerala Contestant Arrested at Mumbai Airport With Drugs Worth Rs 11.82 Crore
A 28-year-old model and former Mrs Kerala contestant has been arrested by Customs officials at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport for allegedly attempting to smuggle more than 11 kg of hydroponic marijuana into India from Bangkok.
The accused, identified as Harsha Sunny, arrived in Mumbai on the night of June 10-11 aboard Air India flight TG-351 from Bangkok. According to officials, her movements during routine surveillance raised suspicion, prompting officers from the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) and Customs Department to subject her to further checks.
During a search of her luggage, officials recovered 12 vacuum-sealed packets containing a green leafy substance concealed inside a trolley bag. Preliminary testing conducted with a Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) field kit confirmed the substance to be hydroponic marijuana, a high-potency form of cannabis.
Customs authorities said the seized contraband weighed more than 11 kg and has an estimated value of Rs 11.82 crore in the illicit market. Following the recovery, Sunny was arrested under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act for alleged drug smuggling.
The accused was later produced before a Mumbai court, which remanded her to judicial custody.
Investigators are now probing the source of the consignment and attempting to identify the intended recipients of the narcotics. Officials are also examining whether the seizure is linked to a larger trafficking network operating between Thailand and India.
