NEET Aspirant Dies by Suicide in Ghaziabad Days Before Re-Examination
A 22-year-old NEET aspirant allegedly died by suicide at his home in Ghaziabad’s Pratap Vihar area, just two days before the scheduled NEET re-examination on June 21, police said.
The student, identified as Jatin Kumar, lived with his family in Vijay Nagar and had been preparing for the medical entrance examination. According to family members, he spent Thursday evening studying in his room. On Friday morning, they found him unresponsive and alerted authorities.
Police and forensic teams reached the residence and began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death. The body was later sent for a postmortem examination.
During the inquiry, investigators recovered a video from the student’s mobile phone that was reportedly recorded shortly before the incident. Officials said the video is being examined as part of the investigation. According to preliminary information, the student spoke about his examination preparations and future aspirations.
Police said they are verifying the authenticity of the recording and reviewing all available evidence to determine the factors that may have contributed to the incident. Jatin was the only son in the family. His father is employed in a government department, while his mother is a homemaker. Relatives and neighbours described the family as deeply shocked by the tragedy.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Upasana Pandey said the recovered video is being analysed and that investigators are examining all aspects of the case. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation, she added.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the pressures faced by students preparing for highly competitive examinations, even as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the case.
