Ketan voiced affair fears before murder, questioned fiancée’s background: Police

Fresh details in the investigation into Pune realtor Ketan Agarwal’s murder suggest he had grown suspicious of his fiancée, Siya Goyal, and believed she was involved with another man in the days leading up to his death.

According to police, Ketan had repeatedly shared his concerns with his father, Vishal Agarwal, questioning whether proper background checks had been conducted before the marriage was finalised. He had also expressed discomfort over Siya’s frequent references to Chetan Chaudhary, who is now the prime co-accused in the case.

Investigators said Ketan’s suspicions intensified after a planned pre-wedding trip to Bali was cancelled on June 6. He reportedly told his father that Siya had started picking arguments over minor issues. His family, however, tried to reassure him, believing the disagreements were temporary.

Police said Ketan later complained that Siya’s phone was often busy when he called and that she regularly mentioned Chaudhary during their conversations, strengthening his suspicion that she was in a relationship with someone else.

“After the Bali trip got cancelled on June 6, Ketan approached his father and complained about Siya picking up fights over small issues. His father told him that, as she was young, she might have been behaving in that manner and assured him that they would counsel her,” a police official said.

After returning from Lohagad Fort on June 14, Ketan again asked his father whether the family had thoroughly verified Siya’s background before fixing the marriage.

“Ketan told his father that Siya’s phone was often busy whenever he called her and that she frequently mentioned Chaudhary during their conversations,” the official added.

Police allege that four days later, on June 18, Ketan was murdered after being pushed off a cliff at Lohagad Fort by Siya Goyal (20) and her alleged lover, Chetan Chaudhary (22). The couple had been engaged and were scheduled to marry in November.

Both accused have been arrested and are in police custody till July 3. The investigation into the alleged murder conspiracy is ongoing.
