Trump Threatens Fresh Military Action Against Iran, Says US Could Strike Again Tonight

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday warned that the United States could launch another round of military strikes against Iran as tensions escalated following the collapse of a temporary ceasefire understanding between Washington and Tehran.

Speaking at the NATO summit, Trump accused Iran of violating the agreement by attacking vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and reiterated that the US would not allow Tehran to develop nuclear weapons.

“I’m not happy with what the Iranians are doing. This isn’t about regime change, but we cannot allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon. If they don’t stop their nuclear programme, we will stop it ourselves,” Trump said.

He described the reported Iranian attacks on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz as a breach of the temporary agreement and warned that Washington was prepared to respond with force.

‘We May Hit Them Again Tonight’

Trump claimed US forces had destroyed 28 Iranian boats overnight and suggested more strikes could follow within hours. “We destroyed 28 Iranian boats last night. We may hit more of them tonight. We’re gonna hit them hard if we have to,” he said.

The US president also said American forces had deliberately avoided targeting Iran’s most critical infrastructure but warned that restraint could end if tensions continue to rise.

“We’re not attacking at the highest level. Their bridges, power plants and electricity facilities haven’t been fully targeted. If we have to, we’ll take them out. I don’t want to do that, but we will if necessary,” Trump said.

Trump Hints at Targeting Kharg Island

In one of his strongest remarks, Trump hinted that the US could seize Kharg Island, Iran’s principal oil export terminal, which handles the vast majority of the country’s crude shipments. Claiming the island had already been partially hit, he said the US intentionally refrained from targeting Iran’s oil infrastructure.

“We attacked Kharg Island last night—we knocked out a piece. I said, ‘Don’t touch the oil,’ because maybe we’ll take over Kharg Island. We may take over Kharg Island. There’s not a thing they can do about it,” Trump said.

Ceasefire Collapses Amid Rising Gulf Tensions

Earlier on Wednesday, Trump declared that the temporary ceasefire with Iran was effectively over, although he left open the possibility of renewed negotiations.

The latest escalation follows reported Iranian attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical energy shipping lanes. Tehran has maintained that it intends to control passage through the waterway and has warned ships against deviating from routes authorised by Iranian authorities.

The renewed threats have heightened fears of a broader regional conflict, with both Washington and Tehran exchanging military warnings as tensions continue to intensify.
