Israel Passes Intelligence on Suspected Iranian Assassination Plan Against Trump: Report

Israel has reportedly shared fresh intelligence with the United States alleging a new Iranian plot to assassinate US President Donald Trump, adding another layer of tension to the already strained relationship between Washington and Tehran.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Israeli intelligence recently alerted US authorities to what it described as a specific threat targeting Trump. The reported warning comes as the US continues to monitor intelligence on potential Iranian retaliation following the 2020 killing of Iranian military commander Qassem Soleimani.

A separate CNN report said the Israeli assessment was conveyed earlier this week. While US intelligence agencies have been tracking a stream of possible threats against Trump in recent weeks, the latest Israeli warning reportedly stood out because it referred to a more concrete alleged assassination plot.

However, some US officials cited in the report suggested the intelligence could also be intended to influence Trump’s decision on whether to intensify American military action against Iran.

Iran’s long-standing vow of revenge

Iran has repeatedly vowed to avenge Soleimani, the former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force, who was killed in a US drone strike in Baghdad ordered by Trump during his first term in office.

American security agencies have since maintained heightened vigilance over potential Iranian threats against current and former US officials linked to the operation.

Trump references assassination threats

Speaking to reporters in Ankara on Wednesday, Trump claimed he remained a target for Iran.

“They want to take out the US leader—me. I’m on every list. I saw this morning I’m on every single one of their lists. So far, I guess I’ve been a little bit lucky, but maybe that doesn’t last very long,” he said.

  • Trump did not present evidence to support the claim.
  • Reports of differences with Netanyahu

The development comes amid reports of differing approaches between Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the future course of the conflict with Iran.

According to media reports, Netanyahu has favoured continuing military operations to achieve additional strategic objectives, while Trump has signalled a preference for avoiding a prolonged conflict, citing concerns over its impact on global economic stability.

Despite the reported differences, the two leaders spoke by phone on Thursday. The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office said they agreed to continue close coordination, with Trump also briefing Netanyahu on recent US activities in the Gulf.

According to previous reporting by The Wall Street Journal, Trump and Netanyahu remained in frequent contact during the initial phase of the conflict, sharing intelligence assessments and discussing potential military targets.

The reported assassination plot has not been independently verified, and there has been no official confirmation from the White House, US intelligence agencies or Iranian authorities.
