Kangana Ranaut’s Sharp Attack on Naseeruddin Shah: ‘Lomdi’ Remark Sparks Buzz

Actress-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut has hit back at veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah over his comments on Bollywood’s silence on student protests.

Shah had questioned why several well-known Bollywood personalities were not speaking out about the ongoing protests. Referring to a popular saying, he remarked that a “dog with a bone in its mouth cannot bark”, suggesting that celebrities may speak when their conscience or circumstances push them to do so.

Ranaut responded through her Instagram Stories and questioned Shah’s silence on the protests in Jharkhand. She also shared a video featuring actor Piyush Mishra discussing Shah’s remarks.

Taking a personal swipe at Shah, Ranaut called him a “lomdi” and said she was proud to stand up for the country from which she earns her livelihood.

Ranaut wrote that while everyone may be loyal to someone or something, she takes pride in protecting and fighting for her own country. She also alleged that Shah “eats from this country but fights for the neighbouring country.”

She further said that being compared to a dog could actually be seen as a compliment because loyalty is rare, adding that she would rather be called a dog than a “lomdi” like Shah.

Naseeruddin Shah recently criticised the silence of Bollywood celebrities over protests in New Delhi.

Speaking to The Wire, the veteran actor said celebrities would speak when their conscience told them to. He used the analogy of a dog holding a bone in its mouth to describe their silence.

When asked whether people were exploiting the silence of others and suppressing their conscience, Shah agreed. He added that the question was how long such a situation could continue.

Ranaut’s latest comments have once again sparked a war of words, with the actress directly challenging Shah over his remarks and his own stance on protests.
