Disha Salian Death Case: Bombay HC Orders CBI Investigation, Directs Registration Of FIR

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the death of Disha Salian, former manager of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, and directed the agency to register an FIR under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

A division bench of Justices Sarang Kotwal and Ranjitsinha Bhonsale instructed the CBI to assign the case to a senior and experienced officer and investigate the circumstances surrounding Salian’s death. The order was passed on a petition filed by Salian’s father, Satish Salian, who alleged serious lapses in the Mumbai Police investigation into his daughter’s death in June 2020.

Court Questions Handling Of Case

The High Court had earlier questioned why Mumbai Police registered only an Accidental Death Report (ADR) despite the family submitting a complaint alleging gang rape and murder. The court also raised concerns over the alleged failure to provide Salian’s family with copies of the post-mortem report and ADR, even five years after her death.

Salian died in June 2020 after allegedly falling from the 14th floor of a high-rise building in Mumbai’s Malad area. Her death has remained the subject of controversy and allegations over the circumstances surrounding the incident.

No One To Be Treated As Accused Without Evidence

While ordering the CBI investigation, the High Court made it clear that no person should be treated as an accused unless the investigating officer finds sufficient material linking them to the case.

The CBI will now examine the circumstances leading to Salian’s death and take further action based on the evidence gathered during its investigation.
