The familiar sight of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli together in India colours returned on Thursday as the two senior batters trained alongside their teammates ahead of the ODI series against the West Indies.
Rohit and Kohli took part in India’s first practice session at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, where the opening ODI will be played on September 27. The two veterans were seen getting back into their routines as India began preparations for the three-match series.
Their reunion comes more than two months after their last outing together. Rohit and Kohli were part of India’s ODI squad for the England tour in July, with their most recent appearance together coming in the third ODI at Lord’s on July 14.
ROHIT, KOHLI BACK IN THE NETS
As reported by The Indian Express, Kohli appeared particularly fluent during his net session. He attacked the bowlers with his trademark strokeplay, including a lofted shot over mid-wicket against Kuldeep Yadav and a straight six off Naman Dhir.
Rohit joined the second batting group after rain briefly interrupted the session. He spent time working on his strokeplay and asked Prasidh Krishna to bowl short, allowing him to prepare for one of the deliveries he could encounter during the series.
The training session ran from approximately 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm IST as the Indian squad focused on adjusting to the conditions in Thiruvananthapuram. Rohit and Kohli had arrived in the city by Thursday and linked up with captain Shubman Gill and the rest of the squad.
WEST INDIES SERIES STARTS SEPTEMBER 27
India and the West Indies will meet in the first ODI on September 27 in Thiruvananthapuram. The second match is scheduled for September 30 in Guwahati, with the final ODI to be played on October 3 in New Chandigarh.
With Rohit and Kohli back in the ODI setup, India have added significant experience to a squad captained by Shubman Gill. The series will also form part of the team’s longer-term preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
