Ramayana: Sunil Lahri Praises Ranbir Kapoor’s Film, Expresses Disappointment Over Its Music
Sunil Lahri, best known for portraying Lakshman in Ramanand Sagar’s iconic television series Ramayan, has shared his views on the upcoming Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Ramayana, expressing confidence in the ambitious project while raising concerns about its musical composition.
Amid growing discussions and criticism surrounding the film’s casting, visual effects and music, Lahri has extended his support to director Nitesh Tiwari and the team. However, he admitted that some of the musical elements he has heard so far have not completely matched his expectations.
On Tuesday, the veteran actor shared a video on X (formerly Twitter), addressing the film and explaining why he felt compelled to offer his perspective, given his association with the legendary epic.
In the video, Lahri clarified that he had not watched the film and did not consider himself an authority on the subject. He also acknowledged that the interpretation of the epic could change with time.
He said that Ramayana was not merely significant for Indians but represented a timeless story for humanity across the world. He emphasised that its cultural values, emotions, traditions and spiritual significance should be respected.
Sunil Lahri Highlights Concerns Over Ramayana’s Music
While expressing optimism about the film, Lahri specifically pointed out his disappointment with some of the music released or heard so far. The upcoming project brings together celebrated composers A. R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer, making the musical expectations particularly high.
According to Lahri, music plays an extremely important role in an epic like Ramayana and serves as its emotional backbone. He believes that the compositions should reflect the cultural identity and regional traditions associated with the story.
He particularly highlighted the importance of incorporating the distinctive musical flavours of Mithila and Ayodhya into the songs and their background compositions.
Lahri explained that certain sounds in the music had disappointed him slightly, although he acknowledged that his observations were based on his personal understanding as a listener rather than as an expert or critic.
Actor Expresses Confidence in Nitesh Tiwari and Film’s Success
Despite his reservations about the music, Lahri praised director Nitesh Tiwari, describing him as a talented filmmaker who had previously delivered impressive films.
He also appreciated the efforts of the actors and other creative professionals associated with the ambitious production. The veteran actor expressed confidence that the team had worked hard to create a film worthy of the epic and hoped audiences would appreciate their efforts.
He further pointed out that the project carries significant financial stakes, with numerous people depending on its success for their livelihoods. Concluding his message, Lahri extended his best wishes to the director, cast and entire production team, praying for the film’s success and signing off with the words, “Jai Shri Ram.”
His comments reflect a combination of admiration for the ambitious adaptation and concern that the music should capture the cultural depth and emotional essence of one of India’s most revered epics.
